Standards Enable Collaboration

I gave a talk for STC France this morning in Paris. It was early but folks turned out and there was coffee and croissant and some good discussion. I was talking about The Digital Deca. The Digital Deca are ten management truths that I am putting forward for consideration—ten things that organizations need to be aware of in order to remain viable in a web-enabled world.

So there I was facilitating a Web standards team meeting recently when I hear, "Could we just compile the best practices on all this instead of working on crafting Web standards in these meetings?" Hmm. I too wish it were that easy.

Last week I had the pleasure of supporting Lisa Welchman in the delivery of several Masterclasses; one in London, the other in Copenhagen. I was thrilled to see so many folks turning out to talk about Web Operations Management, and more specifically Web Governance. It is exciting to see organizations turning to a long-term solution-based approach, versus the reactionary mode that most organizations have been operating in since what seems to be the dawn of the Internet.

ROT Content: A Problem and a Symptom

If you've got a Web site larger than you can easily wrap your hands around, and you don't have strong Web Governance in place, there's a good chance you have some ROT (Redundant, Outdated, or Trivial) content out there. With too much bad content out there, your site easily loses visitors. Don't worry: We're here for you.
