University of Maryland Medical System
Project: Content Management System Selection
Challenge:
The University of Maryland Medical System’s umm.edu Web site boasts the most Web traffic of any US hospital. The Web team turned to us for guidance in selecting a new content management system to enhance their Internet sites and intranet site. The new system needed to:
- Maintain an audit trail of published content with the ability to roll back to previous versions of content
- Reduce publishing bottlenecks to allow for timely publishing
- Gain a central repository to store multiple content types
- Reduce cost and increase operational efficiencies
Outcome:
Out team held focus groups with key stakeholders to understand the medical system’s existing Web processes, challenges and needs. Based on feedback, the system requirements were defined and documented in a request for proposal (RFP). The RFP included use cases, or scenarios, detailing the kinds of tasks the medical system needed to accomplish with the system. Qualified vendors were chosen to receive the RFP and select vendors were invited to demonstrate their tool on site while closely following the use cases. The Web team was poised to make an informed decision on the best tool for their needs. The chosen product is in place and the Web team is pleased with their choice.
