Connecting with your Web peers

Per Delia's post, "Ode to the Lonely Webmaster," being the lone Web person in a large organization can make you feel a bit isolated. Unlike accountants or engineers, Web folks typically don't have a team of co-workers to collaborate with or someone to turn to for mentoring. The Web, as a profession, hasn't even been around long enough for there to be industry standards for Web operations or even consistent job descriptions (I'm guessing most of us still have a hard time explaining our jobs to family members).

We're constantly asked the question, "What do they do in other organizations," which is why we're thrilled to have the opportunity to underwrite the Internet Strategy Forum's annual survey. The Internet Strategy Forum is a professional organization for Web managers, providing a platform for interacting with peers world-wide. The survey, which is open to corporate Internet strategists, is designed to benchmark information about Web teams, budgets, job functions and trends. The survey was just launched today and will stay open until September 30. If you miss the deadline, you can check out previous years' results on the ISF Web site. Stay tuned for updates once the survey report is complete!
